Starting a forum

New postby Unbreakable » Sun Dec 06, 2009 8:03 pm

There are so many forums popping up each day now-days, but some open too soon. I must say i have been guilty of this in the past, but i have learned from my mistakes, but still see it going on at the many promotion forums i visit daily.

Some of the main problems is people want to open theyre forum right away and get the ball rolling, most forums dont have a skin, banner, or decent descriptions, these are all things to think of before opening your forum, people wont join a forum if it looks like its been put together in a matter of minutes, take some time working on your descriptions, titles and get a nice banner made and a nice looking skin that matches your genre.

Another thing i noticed was when people advertise, they hardly have any topics added to their boards, this is a major problem, when someone joins a board, they want to have topics to talk in, not have to create them there selves and wait for people to reply, its always good to have a decent amount of threads on your forum before it opens i say around 50+ that way people wont come to your board, join post a couple of times and leave because its boring and theres nothing to discuss.

Lots of people think their forum will get popular the day it opens this rarely happens, you need to give it time, Ive seen way to many forums that have potential close down because the owner thinks its not getting active, do some post exchanges, get some posts going and some members talking in your forums, this will help potential members get the drive to join your forums and start discussing too, sometimes it takes weeks to get 100 posts dont worry! Just let the forum grow at its own pace, you never know, your forum could end up getting 1000s of posts a day and then you will be laughing that you considered closing when it didnt get active right away.

i totally agree.

I've been working on a forum that i still haven't officially opened. The plan is to get some good content first through promotional sites then go all out.

The preview two forums i ran crumbled due to a lack of plan too.

Very good blog post - next time post a part of it and then type: Continue reading @ sitename.com ..

It makes people visit your blog.

Anyway, very nice post - it is informative. I like how you admitted that you were guilty, honestly. This article has some good tips. Nice one!
