Very nice site. But you have alot of white space the the main page. Well, it looks like alot of white space on my screen.

A. How big is your screen?

B.  On the front page the white space is a little bit intentional.  We are now only three weeks old and getting about 1000 visitors a day.... but our conversion rate to registration is less than 1%.  I recognize that we are a highly specialized forum but I want to drive as much traffic to register as possible to get conversations going and get the forum built up.

The white space is above your Google Ad. And I am on a 19 inch non widescreen LCD monitor. It is because your right side blocks are so long I think. Your left and center just need more content.

Move your Facebook block at the bottom of the site up and make it even with the Google Ad too. At least until you have more content on the site.
